Bishop, father, friend

One of my most inspiring colleagues is Keith Hamilton.  Keith is a convert to the church and was the only African American to attend J. Reuben Clark Law School at BYU while I was there.  He wrote a fantastic book about blacks and the priesthood which I would recommend.  He recently had a short article published in the Deseret News about his first bishop.  I would highly recommend it.  You can read it here.

  1. Your post linked to a great article! The story of how Bishop Nichols became like a father to brother Hamilton was very moving. We have close family friends in Jack Whiteurs, who also happens to be black, and his wife, Missy - both members of the Church. We really appreciate their warm sense of humor and often enjoy a raucous night dining out and laughing together.

Jack introduced me to an amazing African American-centric group located in Cottonwood, UT. Their web site is www.ldsgenesisgroup.org - it's worth checking out. They apply a very intellectually demanding rigor to their examination of the Church, and are always very supportive of it.
